Svyaztransneft Completes Construction of New Kirishi – Krasny Bor – Pulkovo Communication Link

Date of publication: 30 November 2018 Print

Construction of a fibre-optic communications link (FOCL) has been completed at the Upper Volga branch of Svyaztransneft (Yaroslavl) within the Kirishi initial pumping station – Krasny Bor line operation dispatcher station – Pulkovo oil depot section, with an offshoot to Nevskaya products pumping station.
The works commenced in August 2016 and took place in four districts within Leningrad Region and St. Petersburg. The total length of the new FOCL is 240 km.

During the laying of the fibre-optic cable, an anti-personnel landmine, a 152-mm artillery shell, a number of shell cases and elements of military equipment, which had been there since the Great Patriotic War, were found and destroyed.

During the construction, trenchless technology (the  directional drilling method) was used at more than 110 crossings over motorways, including ring roads and express freeways, the Sapsan high-speed railway lines, the rivers Neva and Volkhov, gas pipelines, products pipelines and underground high-voltage grids.

Commissioning the new FOCL provided Transneft Baltic with a wide range of modern high-speed communication services and enabled close monitoring of the condition and operability of the Kirishi – Krasny Bor and the Krasny Bor – Pulkovo petroleum products pipelines. 100% backup of the control and monitoring channels of the petroleum products pipelines, as well as of the Kirishi – Krasny Bor – Nevskaya section of the Kstovo – Yaroslavl – Kirishi – Primorsk petroleum products trunk pipeline was arranged.
