The North Caucasus branch of Svyaztransneft (based in Novorossiysk) has finished installation of a fibre-optic communication line (FOCL) between the Tikhoretsk and Armavir communication centres (CCs). The length of the new communication line, with synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) exceeds 130 km.
Installation began in August 2017 as part of a technical upgrade. The fibre-optic cable was laid in the ground of five districts of Krasnodar Territory, followed by connection of nine existing pipeline telemetry control and monitoring stations to digital Ethernet networks using Spanning Tree and STM-1 technologies.
The installed communication system is part of the interdepartmental communication system of Svyaztransneft that meets the Transneft unified information systems’ needs for high-speed channels.
FOCL enables process control of the Malgobek –Tikhoretsk, Bypass around the Chechen Republic, and Grozny – Baku oil trunk pipelines, and centralised control of the production operations of maintenance divisions.
Installation of the fibre-optic communication line between the Tikhoretsk and Armavir CCs enabled the creation of a backup channel for the process and production communication network, which has drastically increased the resilience, data transfer and communication channel security in this section.
